Environmental Benefits of The Project
Climate change is a force that affects the whole world and the cost is too high to stand by and be idle. That is why here at South Energy, we are taking a stand and moving towards mitigating the effects of global warming through the production of clean energy from solar farming.
With the Kennedys Creek Solar Farm, we will tackle climate change head-on by reducing 305,000 tonnes of greenhouse gases per year. That is the equivalent of the emissions from 65,000 cars being driven annually.
The Victorian Government has set its sights to reach a renewable energy generation target of 25% by 2020 and 40% by 2025. On a national level, the Federal Government is committed to reaching its target of 23.5% by 2020. The continuing pledge from the government to move Australia towards a green, clean country is a common and passionate goal that is shared by us at South Energy.
As with any large projects, there is a diverse range of jobs required for the development, construction and operation of the solar farm, providing strong employment opportunities for the local workforce. Some of these jobs include:
- Concrete and steel works
- Civil works
- Electrical works
- Fencing and Landscaping
- Transportation, and more.
During the construction phase of the project, 250 direct and indirect jobs are expected to be created, with 4 permanent positions required after completion to guarantee the efficient performance of the solar farm. There will be also strong potential for local contractors and businesses to be engaged on a long-term basis throughout the entire life of the project.
With creation of extra employment opportunities by the project, workers will be brought in to the Benalla region and the local economy will see a rise in business opportunities throughout the development, construction and operational stages of the solar farm. Businesses such as:
- Grocery stores
- Restaurants, pubs and cafes
- Petrol and vehicle service stations
- Tool and equipment suppliers
- Transportation, and many more.
Upon completion of the solar farm, the local economy may also benefit from the influx of tourism for the extent of its operation. Environmentalists, educational school excursions and researchers are some of the types of visitors that we may see come to learn about and admire the Kennedys Creek Solar Farm, creating extra business opportunities for the local community.
Community Investment Program
We greatly appreciate the support received from the local community and that is why upon completion of the solar farm, South Energy will be initiating an investment program to give back to our host community. The community investment program will be designed to allocate a portion of the solar farm’s revenue each year and redirect it back into the population to fund local organisations/groups or individual projects that make a positive impact on the local people.
We wish to take this opportunity to improve the overall quality of living of the populace by funding those who share a common goal. This program will be managed locally together with community representatives wherever possible.
More Information about this program will become available as the development of the solar farm progresses.
